On the morning of 26th September 2023, the Tongan delegation visited the International College to discuss the Chinese language courses and the policies related to the enrollment of Tongan students, and to get to know about the campus life of Tongan students in DGUT. After the meeting, the Tongan delegation had an in-depth understanding and first-hand experience of the characteristics of the Chinese language class, and joined the "Happy Mid-Autumn Festival, Happy with You" Mid-Autumn Festival Cultural Activity launched by the International College, meeting with nearly 20 international students from 14 countries, representatives of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges and the International College on the Guancheng campus. They listened to the introduction to the Mid-Autumn Festival, tasted moon cakes and played games to feel the Chinese festive atmosphere.

At the beginning of the event, Ms Monica Lee introduced the origin and customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival as well as the flavours of moon-cakes from different regions. The Tongan delegation had fun with the Chinese teachers and students tasting moon-cakes and listening to the introduction.

The international students and the Tongan delegation played Pot Pitch (Touhu), the Chinese traditional game, leaning forward, aiming the pot, and bingo! The scence was full of fun and laughters.

In ancient times, it was a festive practice to make lanterns to symbolise reunion and burn lanterns to sparkle the moonlight during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Tongan delegation and international students were guided to experience the exquisite lantern making.

George Maeakafa from the Tongan delegation said happily, "I want to bring the lanterns I made back to Tonga and give it to my children, and also share my experience in China and tell them the story and culture of the Mid-Autumn Festival."

The international students and Tongan guests expressed that they felt the unique charm of Chinese traditional culture.
